Trimethylaminuria (TMAU) is a condition (or horrible curse) in which an individual cannot properly convert a chemical called trimethylamine. This leads to a build up of trimethylamine in the bloodstream. The body expels the excess trimethylamine through sweat, urine, vaginal secretions, and breath. Trimethylamine expelled from the body leads to the individual having a foul odor. Some individuals smell like rotten fish, others like garbage, sour milk, excrement, or other foul odors.
TMAU is little understood and difficult to diagnose. This website is here to act as a repository of TMAU information and a place for sufferers of TMAU to congregate.
